We designed 2 children’s trails – each child had to find the umbrella and tick off the symbol for the route. Trail treats could be found on the way – these were offered to the families by the individual shops. They were A3 double sided full colour maps and activity sheets, folded to DL size: perfect for kiddies to carry around.
We created a fun route around Kendal BID area including all pubs, gastro pubs, bars and clubs. This was a fun way to showcase Kendal’s night life.
Each Pub was illustrated around the edge of the map.
Felltarn Friends Scoop Enterprise Vision Award in Glittering Winter Gardens Ceremony
Celebrations were in order for creative duo Claire Mansfield and Amy Onyango of New Hutton based Felltarn Friends this week, as they won a coveted Enterprise Vision Award for Creative Industry.
The glittering ceremony attended by 650 representatives and supporters of female entrepreneurs across the North West was held at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens on Friday 29th September. Winners for each of the 15 categories were chosen from hundreds of nominees, with the shortlists featuring many businesses from Cumbria as well as Manchester, Liverpool and Lancashire.
“It was such a shock to hear our names called as winners – we were thrilled to be finalists and came to the awards for a great evening out. To actually win is just incredible, and we are so grateful to everyone who’s helped, encouraged and supported Felltarn Friends over the past 4 years since we started the business,” said Amy.
Recently, Felltarn Friends have been involved in many creative projects around Kendal, including the Summer Trails, Comic Arts Festival and the hoardings around Westmorland Homecare on Highgate.
Claire is overwhelmed by the recognition of the EVAs, “Amy and I have such a lot of fun working together, and work so hard juggling the business and children, so to be chosen to win an award for our achievements is a real boost and we’re just so happy.”
The ceremony was a big celebration of the variety of businesses across the whole of the North West owned by women. Now in its 7th year, the Enterprise Vision Awards is the largest organisation supporting women in business outside London.
“It was brilliant to be celebrating with so many other winners and finalists from South Lakes in particular,” said Amy. “We saw lots of familiar faces on the night which shows the strength of businesswomen in the area. We’re so proud to be a part of that!”
Family Fun this Easter in Barrow Town Centre thanks to collaborative project between Barrow BID and Felltarn Friends.
Barrow Business Improvement District (BID) has joined forces with creative brand Felltarn Friends for a fun Easter themed week in Barrow town centre.
From Saturday 8th April – Saturday 15th April, children and their families can take part in the FREE Bid Bunny Easter Trail around Barrow town centre. 12 independent businesses – all of which are BID members – have signed up to the trail. A specially designed activity-map will lead children along the route, with pictures to draw along the way.
The aim of the Bid Bunny Easter Trail is to encourage families to visit businesses they might not have previously used and highlight the diversity of local independent stores, while providing family-friendly entertainment.
Barrow BID was set up in 2016 as a way for local businesses – from small independents to national chains, to work together with a mutual aim of improving the town centre’s appeal to the community, increasing visitor satisfaction and boosting business in the town.
BID Manager, Phil Collier said, “It’s vitally important that local businesses are given every opportunity to interact with the local community, and especially to encourage the younger generation to take notice of what’s available to them in the town centre. We have seen the work that Felltarn Friends have done in other towns around Cumbria with their events for children, and we think the Bid Bunny Easter Trail is a great way to really give Barrow a fresh appeal.”
Claire Mansfield, creative director at Felltarn Friends said, “This is a new type of project for us to be involved with – designing and creating the interactive maps and activities that the children will use for the Bid Bunny Easter Trail. One of the specialist services we offer is creating fun and educational activity sheets, but to be asked to create something to showcase Barrow businesses is a totally new take on our usual countryside themed products. We’re very excited to be a part of Barrow BID’s initiative to get more families into the town.”
Every child who draws all the pictures and completes the Bid Bunny Easter Trail will receive a prize!
Maps for the Bid Bunny Easter Trail will be available from local primary schools and The Forum.
Last week we took a trip out of the office to go and have a fun morning of crafting with Year 2 children at Holy Family School, Barrow-in-Furness.
Mrs McGuire and the fab team of teachers and helpers wanted the kids to create something special to tie in with their recent topic on habitats.
Dogs Greetings Cards.
Beautiful Watercolour Doggie Greeting Cards Designed by Claire at Felltarn.
Claire’s got ANOTHER dog! That’s three now: Pixie (Chihuahua); Charlie (Toy Pomeranian); and now Bruce (Chihuahua)! Such cuties – they’re a total comedy act all playing around together and following Claire absolutely everywhere, twelve paws pitter-pattering behind her; Claire’s Disciples, I call them, ha!
When they’re all settled (takes a while…) we have been getting cracking on our latest design project – Greetings Cards! Claire, being The Creative One (although change is afoot – stay tuned to find out more… It’s quite funny…) put pencil to paper and came up with a beautiful design for a dog themed Greeting Card, featuring nine cute canine breeds. → Read more

Of course there are thousands of experiences to be had in the Lake District, and often the most challenging part of your visit can be choosing what to do! There are all those fells to climb and lakes to go boating on (well, which boat would you prefer? Kayak? Canoe? Sailing boat? Steamer? Rowing Boat…?) Wow! Where to start?!
Why not start with the “Felltarn Friends Lake District Adventures” family guide to the Lake District? It really is the perfect way to plan your trip and will entertain the family for hours with the puzzles, games, crafts, facts, jokes, ideas for fabulous family days out, colouring-in sections, and of course the Felltarn Friends themselves: our eight delightful animal characters who feature throughout the book’s 96 beautifully designed pages.

Last year, Felltarn Friends made their first appearance at one of the county’s most prestigious garden festivals – Holker. It was a great success, and a wonderful way to showcase the book and few other bits and bobs as we had back then. This year, we went a little bonkers and decided to have a stall at Holker Garden Festival and Country Fest… At the same time! (Yes, crazy, I know…)!!
But just look how the Felltarn Friends range has grown into such a beautiful array of delightful goodies. We’re very proud of everything, from the little Activity Bags with the heart-tree or boat design to choose from (and such a lot of treats inside), to the soft snuggly Baby Comforter, lovingly handmade by Sarah Fletcher. We can boast our own clothing range! Imagine! Little Tees with a patchwork air balloon, and a little Felltarn Felt Finger Puppet sitting in the basket. I mean who doesn’t want one? Oh and how could I forget the patchwork dolls? → Read more
